Summary of PeachCare: PeachCare for Kids provides affordable comprehensive health care to children through the age of 18 who do not qualify for Medicaid and who live in households with incomes at or below 235% of the federal poverty level. This means a family of three can earn $43,029 a year and a family of four can earn $51,818 a year.

Summary of Medicaid Program and Benefits: Title XIX (Medicaid). Georgia began serving members in 1968. In fiscal year 2006, Georgia Medicaid served 1.5 million members with $5.9 billion in state and federal funds. States administer their programs under federally approved state plans. Georgia Medicaid currently receives $1.63 in federal funds for every $1 of state funds. Medicaid reimburses health care providers for services to eligible members.

The objectives of the Medicaid program are to:

(a) Provide broad health care coverage to certain lower income populations;

(b) Offer special community-based coverage for certain disabled and elder populations;

(c) Extend supplemental coverage to lower income Medicare beneficiaries: and,

Summary of Medicare Program and Benefits: The Georgia Medicare Part A Claims Program is administered by a division of BlueCross and BlueShield of Georgia, Inc., as an Independent Licensee of the BlueCross and BlueShield Association for the State of Georgia), which serves as Part A Intermediary under the Medicare program. In addition to the 973,794 Georgia Medicare enrollees, Georgia Medicare Part A also serves enrollees in other states in its role as single intermediary for three Dialysis Facility chains.

Summary of SHIP Program and Benefits: GeorgiaCares is a private-public partnership sponsored by the Department of Human Resources Division of Aging Services and Area Agencies on Aging. Partners include pharmacies, physicians, hospitals, universities, and other organizations. Trained GeorgiaCares staff and volunteers can help seniors secure prescription discounts, get the most out of Medicare and other insurance, prevent Medicare fraud and waste, and prepare early for late-life needs.

Summary of Uninsurable Risk Pool and Benefits: A state health insurance "risk pool" is a state-sponsored health insurance program that provides health insurance coverage to individuals who are unable to obtain health care due to a pre-existing medical condition. For many people with pre-existing conditions, state risk pools are the only available option.

There are currently 18 states that do not have an uninsurable risk pool: Arizona, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia.

Summary of COBRA Program and Benefits: Georgia Code requires that employer’s with less than 20 employees must continue a terminated employee’s coverage through the end of the month of date of termination, plus an additional 3 months thereafter. This applies to any employee that has had at least 6 months of coverage under the group plan and excludes employees that were terminated due to misconduct. Extension of benefits must be offered to individuals over the age of 60.
